Before you stands Mushola Ami’atul Muslimin a humble yet significant mosque in Jakarta. It wasn’t always so grand. This modest house of worship holds a rich history. It began as a simple surau panggung a raised prayer hall in the 1920s. Built by H Muhammad bin H Mugheni on land belonging to Hj Mudjenah it served the community faithfully.
This original structure stood on Jalan H Muhammad. It was located behind the residence of H Mustofa bin H Mahpuz. In July 1968 after much deliberation the surau was demolished and relocated to its present site. Its name changed to Mushola Al-Amin. This relocation and renaming marked a new chapter for Mushola Ami’atul Muslimin.
The new Mushola Al-Amin was built on 258 square meters of wakaf land. This land was generously donated by H Asnawi bin H Thamrin for his father H Thamrin bin Reudin. A dedicated committee spearheaded by Yusuf Djohan oversaw construction. Prominent figures served as advisors. H Muhammad bin H Mugheni was an advisor along with H Fadhil bin Thabrani as chairman. H Mustofa bin H Mahpuz served as secretary.
The foundation stone of Mushola Al-Amin was laid on August 2nd 1968. KH Rahmatullah Siddiq and KH Siddiq bin H Daud notable religious scholars were present. Drs Zaenuddin the Kebon Jeruk sub-district head also attended. H Umar Izzi the Sukabumi Utara village head was also present. The mosque was completed in December 1968 and immediately became a center for prayer and community life. Mushola Ami’atul Muslimin was used for various religious activities.
After 26 years a major renovation was undertaken in 1995. This significant upgrade modernized Mushola Ami’atul Muslimin. The renovation included expanding the prayer hall. A pendopo an open-sided pavilion was added in front in 2012. This final upgrade completed the Mushola Al-Amin to its present form.
The Mushola Ami’atul Muslimin stands as a testament to the enduring faith and community spirit of Jakarta. From its humble beginnings as a simple surau to its present form it has served as a place of worship and a center for community life for generations. It is a place where the past meets the present a symbol of resilience and devotion. This unassuming mosque has played a vital role in shaping the spiritual landscape of its neighborhood.
