What if education could change your life? At Shoreline Community College, it has done just that for thousands of students since 1964. Shoreline Community College sits on a sprawling 83-acre campus, a generous gift from the Boeing family. The college wasn’t always here though. It started as a dream of Ray W. Howard, the superintendent of the Shoreline School District. He saw a need for higher education opportunities for those who couldn’t afford traditional four-year universities. His vision led to the first evening classes held in 1964 at Shoreline High School, now known as Shoreline Center. The college officially opened its doors on the current campus in the fall of 1965. Shoreline Community College offers more than just a beautiful campus. It boasts a wide range of programs. Students can pursue a two-year associate degree, designed to transfer to a four-year university. They can also choose from over 100 professional and technical programs. These programs provide targeted training for specific careers, giving students the skills they need to succeed in the workforce. Shoreline Community College also embraces its role as a global institution. Students from 45 countries enrich the campus community, bringing diverse perspectives and experiences. The college’s commitment to student success goes beyond academics. Over 140 scholarships and $14.4 million in financial aid are awarded annually, making education accessible to a wider range of students. Shoreline Community College even houses a unique program, part of the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium. This program provides specialized training in alternative fuel vehicles, a forward-thinking approach to automotive education. At the heart of the campus is the Ray W. Howard Library. One of the original buildings, the library stands as a testament to the college’s founder. Remodeled in 2016-2017, it provides a wealth of resources, both physical and digital. Shoreline Community College isn’t just a place to learn; it’s a launching pad for dreams. A 2013 study showed that Shoreline Community College graduates earn, on average, $456,269 more in their lifetime compared to those without an associate degree. Shoreline Community College continues to transform lives. It stands as a testament to the power of education and the vision of one man who dared to dream of a brighter future for his community.
