Imagine stepping back in time, to 1934, a group of Christian believers seeking a space to gather and share their faith. They started by meeting in a house on Tenby Avenue, in the heart of Kenton. This is where the story of Kenton Evangelical Church begins. The following week, they moved to the Co-operative Society Hall, renting the space for Sunday services and Sunday School activities. By 1937, they found a new home in an ex-Army hut on the grounds of Westfield House on Charlton Road. A few years later, when part of the Westfield House site was sold, the church purchased some of the land. This was the pivotal moment that led to the construction of the church we see today.
The foundation stone for the current building was laid on August 23, 1958. The dedication service, officially opening the church, took place on January 24, 1959. Over the past 90 years, the church has witnessed a lot of changes, from evolving musical styles to shifts in the local community. Yet, one constant remains: the good news of Jesus Christ. This message has been shared and preached at Kenton Evangelical Church throughout its history. Today, you can experience this welcoming community, where people of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds come together, united by their faith in Jesus Christ.
