What happens when a group of devout Christians gathers for prayer in the heart of Chicago? This is the story of the Midwest Bible Church. Right here, in the bustling city, the Midwest Bible Church has stood as a beacon of faith since its humble beginnings in 1933. It all started with a series of prayer meetings in the homes of dedicated believers. They yearned for a place to share their faith and minister to the community around Cicero and Addison. Their prayers were answered on May 7, 1933. Forty-one souls gathered at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Kjelstad for the first public service. The air was filled with the sound of hymns, led by Peter Kjelstad himself, accompanied by a five-piece orchestra. Imagine the heartfelt message delivered by John Effertz from the very first chapter of John. The Midwest Bible Church, however, was not meant to be confined to homes. They sought a more public space, eventually finding a double-store building on Cicero Avenue. Under the guidance of Peter Hansen, the building was transformed into a sanctuary. On September 24, 1933, a special ceremony marked the dedication of this new space. The Midwest Bible Church continued to grow, fueled by their unwavering faith and the leadership of individuals like Torrey Johnson. Over the years, they faced challenges and celebrated triumphs. They built a new church building, expanded their property, and became a beacon of hope for the community. The Midwest Bible Church stands today as a testament to the enduring power of faith, a place where the Gospel of Jesus Christ continues to resonate. As you stand before its welcoming doors, remember the dedicated individuals who dared to dream of a place where faith and community could thrive, a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
