In 1905, a seed of faith was planted in Radlett. The Radlett Congregational Church opened its doors on Watling Street. Now, as we stand before Radlett United Free Church on Station Road, that seed’s journey unfolds. The original Congregational Church on Watling Street served the community for decades. But the winds of change blew in 1972. The Congregational Church in England and Wales joined with the Presbyterian Church of England. The Radlett church became the Radlett United Reformed Church. This union, however, wasn’t universal. Not all congregations embraced the change. A decade later, in 1980, another shift occurred. The Radlett United Reformed Church merged with the Methodists. They found a new home at the Methodist church on Station Road. This building, originally opened in 1938, became the Radlett United Free Church we see today. The former church on Watling Street found a new purpose, serving the Radlett Reform Synagogue. So, the story of Radlett United Free Church isn’t just about one building.
