Tucked away in Boulogne-Billancourt, Villa Marie-Justine whispers tales of a bygone era. This isn’t the Villa Marie-Justine of courtesans and scandals, as some might mistakenly believe. This Villa Marie-Justine is a quiet street, a private lane holding decades of stories within its charming walls. Imagine stepping back in time to 2003. The villa was in a state of disrepair. Its once-proud roadway was crumbling, a testament to the challenges faced by privately owned streets. But the residents, along with the mayor, Jean-Pierre Fourcade, weren’t about to let Villa Marie-Justine fade away. They formed the Association des propriétaires de la villa Marie-Justine (APVMJ) and pooled their resources, over 150,000 euros. This allowed to give Villa Marie-Justine a much-needed facelift. New sidewalks and roadways emerged from the dust, along with repaired sewers and buried electrical lines. The municipality even pitched in, covering the cost of new streetlights, illuminating Villa Marie-Justine for its residents, some of whom, like the street’s eldest resident, had called the villa home since 1926. Villa Marie-Justine stands today as a testament to community spirit and the enduring charm of Boulogne-Billancourt’s hidden corners. It’s a quiet reminder that history isn’t always found in grand monuments, but sometimes in the cobblestones beneath our feet.
