Comiston. A name whispered on the winds of time, echoing tales of prehistoric battles and Roman roads. Imagine standing here, where the clash of ancient armies once shook the ground. These very fields witnessed a fierce struggle, leaving behind two massive burial cairns, silent testaments to the fallen. Sadly, these monuments to history were plundered in the 19th century, their stones used to pave the new toll roads. Yet, a single stone, 20 feet tall, remained as a memorial, known as the Camus Stone. This stone, dedicated to the Danish commander, Camus, would eventually lend its name, corrupted through time, to this place: Comiston. Comiston in Edinburgh has a rich history. From this seemingly quiet suburb flowed the lifeblood of Edinburgh. From 1680, Comiston Springs piped vital water to the city centre. Imagine the city’s dependence on this crucial resource. Comiston’s heart beats along Comiston Road. This vital artery extends from Morningside Road, transforming into Biggar Road as it stretches southward, eventually reaching Biggar as the A702. Comiston Road also bears the mark of Victorian elegance with Pentland Terrace. These grand houses, set back from the main road, boast their own roadway, a testament to a bygone era. Comiston is more than just roads and ancient history. It’s a vibrant community. Modern amenities nestle alongside traditional charm, creating a unique blend of old and new. Delicatessens, bakeries, butchers, and fishmongers offer local delicacies, while a Waitrose supermarket and Marks & Spencer Food Outlet cater to modern needs. This blend makes Comiston a highly desirable location. Comiston is also ideally located. Just two miles south of Edinburgh’s city centre, it offers easy access to both Napier and Edinburgh Universities. Excellent public transport links provide quick connections to the city, while the nearby bypass caters to motorists. Comiston truly offers something for everyone.
