Vista Point sits majestically on the northern side of the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s in Sausalito Marin County. From here you can see the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The views are incredible. You can capture stunning photos of the bridge’s Art Deco design. The dramatic setting between the Marin Headlands and San Francisco is breathtaking.
Vista Point was created during the bridge’s 1937 construction. It offered a perfect spot to admire the landmark. The location was carefully chosen. This was no accident. It was designed for the classic “straight on” image of the bridge. This is why it’s such a popular spot for photographers.
On clear days your eyes can wander far. You might even spot Alcatraz Island. Or the Farallon Islands 30 miles off the coast. The views are truly spectacular. They extend to the Marin Headlands and beyond.
Parking at Vista Point is free but limited. There’s a four-hour limit. It often fills up quickly. Especially during peak season from March to October. Weekends are also very busy. Arrive early or late to avoid waiting in line. Water fountains are available. But vending machines and the gift shop are at the Southeast Parking Lot in San Francisco.
A word of caution. If you drive north across the bridge from San Francisco. Then realize you can’t park at Vista Point. Driving back southbound means paying the toll. Even if you were only on the other side for a few minutes.
An insider tip: during busy times the Vista Point parking lot may close. Only buses taxis and ride-sharing services are allowed. In that case park at the southern end of the bridge. Then walk across to Vista Point.
Getting here by bus is possible but not direct. You’ll need to walk a bit from the bus stop. The best way might be to take a Marin Transit bus across the bridge. Get off at the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza. Then walk across the bridge to Vista Point. It’s a long walk but the views are amazing.
From Vista Point you can access the east sidewalk of the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s an easy walk. A gate and stairs lead from the parking lot to the bridge. There’s also a ramp for bikes and those with disabilities. Enjoy the walk and the magnificent views of one of the world’s most famous bridges. Vista Point. It’s more than just a view.
