Whispers suggest that the name Rue du Clos de Pacy holds a secret. This street sits in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. Let’s explore the story behind this Parisian street.

Rue du Clos begins at 2 bis Rue Courat. It ends at Boulevard Davout. This street’s history is more intriguing than you might expect.

The origin of the name Rue du Clos de Pacy is debated. Gustave Pessard believed it came from “Clos Régie”. This place was known for its wine. Jacques Hillairet had a different idea. He thought the name was a distortion of “ruelle à Colot”. So, the true origin remains a charming mystery.

In 1758, Rue du Clos was marked as “ruelle à Colot” on a map. This map was of the village of Charonne. It shows how old this path is. The street’s classification into Parisian roadways came later.

Originally, Rue du Clos ended at 58 Rue Saint-Blaise. Later, urban renewal changed its path. As part of the ZAC Saint-Blaise project, it was extended. It now reaches Boulevard Davout. This extension connected it to the Marie de Miribel tram station on line T3b.

This project involved demolishing part of 49 Rue Saint-Blaise. The extension opened adding a new chapter to the street’s story.

Several notable people have called Rue du Clos home. Fernande Decruck a composer of classical music lived at number 1. The Théâtre aux Mains Nues is at number 43. These places add cultural significance to the street.
