Tucked away in Lyon, Impasse Gantz is more than just a dead end. It’s a quiet passage, a small world of its own. Impasse Gantz branches off the east side of Rue Victor et Roger Thomas. It’s a short, broad lane. Impasse Gantz begins between two individual houses. It leads to a larger house on the south side. Two cube-like buildings stand at the end. The southern one has two stories, while the northern one has four. At the very end of Impasse Gantz, a low wall separates it from a parking lot. This parking lot sits behind a row of buildings on Boulevard Pinel. Impasse Gantz appeared sometime in the mid-20th century. It has remained largely unchanged since then. The origin of the name “Gantz” remains a mystery. While a rock band with that name has played in Lyon, the connection to the impasse is unclear. One theory involves a Japanese manga series also called “Gantz”. However, it’s set in Tokyo, with no obvious ties to Lyon.
