In 1956, a small group envisioned a new Presbyterian presence in Seattle. This group laid the foundation for what we now know as Hillcrest Presbyterian Church. Originally named Faith Presbyterian Church, it was renamed Hillcrest Presbyterian Church in 1958. Imagine Seattle in the late 1950s. The Space Needle was still a gleam in the city’s eye. Hillcrest Presbyterian Church, however, was taking root. In 1959, they secured property and called their first pastor, Reverend John R. Tranbarger. Reverend Tranbarger served Hillcrest Presbyterian Church for an incredible 35 years, guiding the congregation until his retirement in 1994. The church continued to grow and evolve. A testament to this is the 2008 renovation of Hillcrest Presbyterian Church. The remodel updated most of the rooms and added a 50-foot extension. This expansion provided more classrooms, a new kitchen, and a fellowship center. Hillcrest Presbyterian Church has Sunday services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., offering opportunities for worship, fellowship, and prayer. Beyond its walls, Hillcrest Presbyterian Church actively engages with the Seattle community through various programs. These programs aim to support and uplift families and individuals.
