Universitas Prasetiya Mulya concentrates on business management science technology and law. The S1 program thrives in BSD City Tangerang Banten. The S2 and S3 programs are in Cilandak Jakarta. Universitas Prasetiya Mulya was once known as PMBS. This stood for Prasetiya Mulya Business School.
Prasetiya Mulya Business School was founded by 70 national entrepreneurs. They operated under the Yayasan Prasetiya Mulya. This occurred on September 6 1982. Prof Dr Djisman Simanjuntak chaired the foundation. The name Prasetiya Mulya is inspired by Sanskrit. It means noble promise.
Initially it was the Management Development Centre. Its MBA modular program was the first in Indonesia. Basic Module I launched on September 6 1982. It took place at Hotel Kemang. The centre developed applied education. This helped small industrial entrepreneurs. It partnered with Jakarta’s Industrial Department. This program ran for 20 cohorts. Over 1100 participants joined.
In 1983 the Management Development Center became Institut Manajemen Prasetiya Mulya. This institute provided management education. Its training suited Indonesia’s conditions. Learning occurred at Hotel Kemang until 1984. That year the institute moved to a new building. It was in Cilandak.
The foundation stone was laid on November 10 1982. Minister of Education and Culture Dr Daoed Joesoef did the honors. The building officially opened on November 12 1984. Minister Coordinator of Economics Prof Dr Ali Wardhana officiated. The Institut Manajemen Prasetiya Mulya partnered with PT Astra International. They created the first Executive Development Program in 1984.
In 1993 government regulations changed the institute. It became Sekolah Tinggi Manajemen Prasetiya Mulya STMPM. The MBA became Magister Manajemen MM. The school offered a regular MM program. It was for fresh graduates. An executive MM program catered to those with five years of managerial experience. That year the school launched the Certificate Business Management CBM program. This non-degree program served business owners professionals and those seeking integrated management education.
The Prasetiya Mulya School of Business and Economics launched S1 programs in 2005. By 2010 a second campus opened in BSD City. It spans eight hectares. It is dedicated to the S1 program. In 2011 new concentrations emerged. Marketing and Finance joined S1 Business. On May 27 2011 the institution became Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Prasetiya Mulya. In 2015 S1 Management added S1 Event.
On March 17 2016 Prasetiya Mulya became a university. Previously it was Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi STIE. The Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education approved the change. Minister Muhammad Nasir inaugurated the change. The event occurred at ICE BSD City Serpong Tangerang. Prof Dr Djisman Simandjuntak became the first rector. In 2016 Universitas Prasetiya Mulya created the School of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics STEM. The School of Law and International Studies SLIS followed in 2022.
Currently Universitas Prasetiya Mulya offers S1 programs. It also provides S2 Magister Manajemen and S3 Doktor Manajemen dan Kewirausahaan programs. Non-degree programs in management and business are also available. These meet company needs. Today Prasetiya Mulya University ranks high among Indonesian universities. Its selective admissions reflect a commitment to excellence.
