Devotion unfolds here at the Church of Perfect Liberty. This church is a beacon of unique spiritual expression. It’s part of an international religion. This religion blossomed from Zen Buddhist roots in Japan during the early 20th century.

The Church of Perfect Liberty embraces a core philosophy. It believes that “Life is art”. Followers are encouraged to express their individuality. They do this in every facet of their existence. They aim to create true art through their actions and choices.

The church provides guidance to its believers. It helps them navigate life’s challenges. The Patriarch and ministers offer support. They explain the origins of problems. They lead believers to find solutions.

Unlike many religions, the Church of Perfect Liberty doesn’t rely on a holy book. Instead, it follows the PL 21 Precepts. These precepts offer a path to enlightenment. They guide believers toward a fulfilling life.

The First Founder was Rev. Tokuharu Miki. He was a former Buddhist priest. His journey began in 1912. He met Rev. Tokumitsu Kanada. Kanada healed Miki’s chronic asthma through a sacred ritual. Miki became his disciple.

Before Kanada’s passing, he revealed a prophecy. He said that his Tokumitsu Church held 18 Precepts. Three more would emerge to complete the teachings. In 1924, these precepts were revealed. Miki established the new Tokumitsu Church. He became its First Kyoso or Founder.

In 1931, a new name emerged. The church became known as the Hitonomichi Church. This translates to “the way of humans.” The church quickly gained popularity. It spread throughout Japan, Korea, China, and other Southeast Asian countries. Membership soared to one million in a short period.

However, challenges arose. In 1936, the military government suppressed the church. They ordered it to disband. Rev. Tokuharu Miki passed away on July 6, 1938.

The Second Founder, Rev. Tokuchika Miki, succeeded his father. He faced imprisonment but was released in 1945. In 1946, he reestablished the church in Tosu City. He gave it a new name. It became the Church of Perfect Liberty. He declared the truth, “Life is Art.”

In 1947, the PL 21 Precepts were revealed. These became the foundation of the church’s teachings. The Church of Perfect Liberty expanded rapidly across Japan. In 1953, the construction of the present Headquarters began. It was built in Tondabayashi, near Osaka.

Rev. Tokuchika Miki played a significant role in interfaith dialogue. He organized the “Federation of New Religious Organizations of Japan”. He engaged in discussions about world peace with Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II. He passed away in 1983.

The Third Founder, Rev. Takahito Miki, assumed the leadership role. He is the adopted son of the Second Founder. He became the Oshieoya in 1983. He has visited numerous PL churches worldwide.

Today, the Church of Perfect Liberty has a presence across the globe. It has communities in North and South America. It also has communities in Europe and Oceania.
