Avondale College

Built in 1943 Avondale College started as a US Naval Mobile Hospital. It was designed to treat wounded soldiers and sailors during World War II. The Pacific war didn’t escalate as anticipated. The hospital wasn’t needed for war casualties. Avondale College then opened in 1945. It became West Auckland’s only high school. This remained the case until Henderson High School opened in 1953.
