Dreaming of a sanctuary born from struggle? That’s Masjid Jami Al Jihad. This mosque in Ciputat Jakarta began as a simple prayer house. It stood since 1930 before Indonesia even gained independence.

Imagine Ciputat’s bustling market. Amid the noise and thousands of people moving about stands a large and calming building. That is Masjid Jami Al Jihad. For over 80 years it has been part of the community.

Amir Syarifudin Ely a local resident and mosque official recalls its early days. He says that the mosque began as a small surau. A surau is like a musala a simple prayer room. Back then this area connecting Jakarta and Bogor was mostly empty land. The surau stood next to a large market.

Over time the musala underwent renovations and expansions. By the 1960s Masjid Jami was known for its grand structure.

In 2008 the community decided to further develop Masjid Jami. Ramzi Nasrun the engineer overseeing the project called it a struggle. Because of this community effort the mosque was named Al-Jihad meaning struggle.

Today Masjid Jami Al Jihad is more than just a mosque. It is a foundation that runs a minimarket and rents out its hall. The profits help empower the community.

Consider the mosque’s location near the busy Ciputat Market. It is a place of peace amid chaos. Think about the people who built it. They were determined to create a space for their community. Ponder the meaning of its name Al-Jihad. It represents the community’s struggle to build and maintain the mosque.

Masjid Jami Al Jihad started small but grew into something significant. It offers not only spiritual guidance but also community support. Its history shows how much a community can achieve through cooperation. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the people of Ciputat. Remember the name Al-Jihad. It embodies the spirit of perseverance.
