Remembering two giants of music history, the Lennon and Harrison Plaque stands as a testament to their genius. Here at 94 Baker Street, we commemorate John Lennon and George Harrison. This location was once home to the Apple Boutique clothing shop. Apple Corps Ltd owned the shop in the 1960s. The band itself had formed Apple Corps Ltd.

This plaque isn’t just a marker. It’s a symbol of their creative partnership. It also marks their impact on music and culture. The original plaque only honored Lennon. It has been updated to include Harrison who died in 2001. The plaque reads: “John Lennon, MBE, 1940-1980, and George Harrison, MBE, 1943-2001, worked here.”

The Apple Boutique was open for a short time. It operated from December 1967 to July 1968. Despite its brief existence, it became a cultural touchstone. The Beatles intended it to be more than just a store. Paul McCartney said it would be “a beautiful place where beautiful people can buy beautiful things”.

The band hired The Fool. This design collective created a psychedelic mural on the building’s exterior. Neighbors complained about the colorful design. Westminster Council ordered it to be painted over. The mural was replaced with the word “Apple”. It was written in cursive script on the whitewashed building.

Ultimately, the Apple Boutique was not a success. The Beatles decided to close it down. They gave away all the stock to the public. People queued throughout the night for free items. Paul McCartney explained that they wanted to give rather than sell.

Rod Davis unveiled this special Lennon and Harrison Plaque. He was the banjo player in Lennon’s first band The Quarrymen. The Heritage Foundation organized the event. The foundation pays tribute to British talent. They bring joy to millions through entertainment and sport.

The Beatles have many London connections. They lived, recorded, and performed in various neighborhoods. Their influence is still felt throughout the city. From Abbey Road Studios to Savile Row, their presence is palpable.

Consider this plaque a reminder of their enduring legacy. Lennon and Harrison changed music forever. They also contributed to art and culture. Their time at Apple Boutique may have been brief. The Lennon and Harrison Plaque stands as a testament to their combined genius. It marks their lasting impact on the world.
