“Oaks of righteousness.” The phrase hangs in the air, echoing the inscription found within Immanuel School’s very foundation. Right here, in the Havering Grange Centre of Romford, stands Immanuel School, a testament to the power of community, faith, and a dedication to nurturing young minds. But Immanuel School wasn’t always this grand structure. Its story begins humbly in 1980. A small group of parents, driven by a shared vision of providing a Christian education for their children, took a leap of faith. Picture those early days, filled with the clatter of desks in church halls, the quiet hum of learning in parents’ homes, and the repurposed walls of a former health clinic echoing with the laughter of children. These were the acorns from which Immanuel School would grow, embodying the verse from Isaiah 61:3, foretelling the children would become “oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.” The school, known then as Acorn School, took root and flourished. By 1986, the need to nurture these growing minds led to the establishment of Covenant School, a secondary school extension, ensuring the children’s journey continued through their GCSEs. In 1990, both Acorn and Covenant Schools found a permanent home here at Havering Grange Centre. This relocation marked a new chapter, a strengthening of roots, and a testament to the commitment of the school’s founders. Finally, in 1993, Acorn and Covenant Schools merged, their branches intertwining to become the mighty Immanuel School we stand before today. It’s a legacy built on faith, community and a dedication to providing a nurturing environment for young minds to blossom into “oaks of righteousness”.
