Originally protected in 1982, Parque Natural Municipal Ribera Norte holds the distinction of being the country’s oldest municipal reserve. Formally inaugurated in 1988, it stands as a testament to the commitment of preserving Argentina’s natural heritage.
Unlike many urban reserves formed by landfill, Parque Natural Municipal Ribera Norte boasts a natural origin. Its formation mirrors that of the islands in the lower delta of the Paraná River. Alluvial sediments deposited by the Paraná River created cubetiform terrains. These terrains feature marshy areas and elevated riverbanks called albardones.
The park’s logo features two native species. The vibrant red flowers of the ceibo, Argentina’s national flower. The white-throated hummingbird, a local species.

In the albardones, you’ll find the marginal jungle. It has subtropical species. This jungle belongs to the mixed forest district of the Paranaense phytogeographic province.
