“Imagine,” a local whispers to you. This is a gem. The Gurdies Winery boasts views of Western Port Bay. It sits in the Bass Coast region of South Gippsland.

The Gurdies Winery is a rustic meeting place. Locals and travelers relax here. They enjoy the magnificent views and some of the wines. This winery has been around for a while. It was established 30 years ago. Now, Wendy Heaney and Bruce Preston operate it. They bought it from a neighboring winemaker.

Wendy and Bruce moved to The Gurdies in 2012. They bought a property with a rundown small vineyard. Dick Wettenhall was their neighbor. He then owned The Gurdies Winery. He gave them help and advice. The vines started to improve. In 2015, Heaston Estate was established.

In September 2020, Wendy and Bruce bought The Gurdies Winery. This brought the two properties back together. Since then, the Cellar Door has changed. It has become a comfy space.

The Gurdies Winery produces a range of wines. These wines are made from estate-grown grapes. They use traditional wine-making processes. The wines are typically cool climate in style. Popular choices include Riesling and Verdelho-Chardonnay. Chardonnay, Rose, and Pinot Noir are also favorites. You can also find Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz. They also have a new Sparkling Red.

The views from The Gurdies Winery are spectacular. You can see Western Port Bay. There is a large cellar door facility. An extensive garden area offers barbeque facilities. These are suitable for family picnics. The winery also hosts weddings.

Bruce and Wendy have grand plans for The Gurdies Winery. They want to welcome locals and visitors. Marcus Satchell co-owns Dirty Three Wines in Inverloch. He continues as the key winemaker.

Bruce says they want to shield the customer from the view. As you walk down the stairs through the double doors, you will be met by a picture-framed view. Wendy enjoys meeting visitors. They can enjoy the view. They can pair their wine tasting with local cheese and crackers.

The Gurdies Winery also hosts live music evenings. People from The Gurdies can socialize in the renovated space. Wendy says they want to support the local people.

Bruce rates several wines as some of the finest. The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon achieved awards. The 2018 Riesling is a drier, fruity flavor. The 2016 Chardonnay is popular. The oak enhances the berry flavors. The 2019 Pinot Noir has earthy flavors. The 2021 Rose has a lot of spice flavors. It’s very drinkable.

The Gurdies Winery is open Friday to Monday. The hours are 11 am to 5 pm. It is located at 215 Gurdies-St Helier Road. It’s a touch of class for wine lovers. It has a new look.
