Further repairs became uneconomical. A full demolition and replacement were decided upon. This decision led to the recent reinforcement work.

This reinforcement is quite fascinating. The older northern section was strengthened using polygonal cables. Think of it as giving the old bridge a strong hug. The newer southern section received reinforcements to its supporting structure. This ensured the bridge’s safety until a replacement is constructed. That replacement is planned for a site 700 meters south. Until then a speed limit remains in effect.
