It’s a portal to the 19th and early 20th centuries. Originally, this building housed the Istanbul Art and Sculpture Museum, established in 1937. Following renovations from 2010 to 2014, it was reborn as the National Palaces Painting Museum. The artwork here, primarily gathered from Ottoman palaces, spans diverse styles and artists. You’ll find works by Turkish artists like Şeker Ahmed Pasha and Osman Hamdi Bey, representing the evolution of Turkish art with a Western influence. The museum also showcases pieces by court painters Stanislaw Chlebowski and Fausto Zonaro. They served Sultans Abdulaziz and Abdülhamid II, providing a unique glimpse into royal patronage. One of the most striking collections at the National Palaces Painting Museum features works purchased from the Goupil Gallery in Paris during Abdulaziz’s reign. This reveals his distinct artistic taste and the influence of his assistant, Şeker Ahmed Pasha. Step into the Ceremony Hall, the most magnificent room in the building.
