Imagine a village where time slows. This is Kleinröhrsdorf. It is a district of Großröhrsdorf. This place has a story etched into every stone.
Kleinröhrsdorf was first mentioned in 1350. It was then called Rudigersdorf. The name changed over the centuries. Names like “czu cleinen Rudigerstorff” and “Klein Roehrsdorf” appeared.
Before we delve deeper let me paint you a picture of Kleinröhrsdorf today. The village extends over 7.3 square kilometers. About 769 people call it home. Kleinröhrsdorf sits southwest of Großröhrsdorf. It lies on the western edge of the Lausitzer Platte. The Große Röder River flows through the village.
Until 1997, Kleinröhrsdorf was independent. Since 1998 it belongs to Großröhrsdorf. In the 1990s a new residential area was built. It nearly doubled the village’s population.
Centuries ago near Kleinröhrsdorf, there was a stud farm. It housed electoral horses. It belonged to the forester’s house. That area was called Hegereiterei.
A village teacher was first mentioned in 1571. A school building was built in 1874. This was replaced by a new building in 1903. Since 1970 Kleinröhrsdorf has been part of Großröhrsdorf’s school district.
In the 19th century, two mills stood on the Große Röder. These were the Schneidemühle and a grain mill.
The small village church dates back to the 14th century. Inside you’ll find a pulpit and font. These were crafted in the 16th century.
Several historical half-timbered houses remain. These include the blacksmith shop from 1830. Also the former Erbgericht inn from 1794.
Since 1971, Kleinröhrsdorf has a corps of drums. They are housed in the old municipal office. The corps were district champions several times. They even hosted the GDR championships.
The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1933. Before that, there was a compulsory fire brigade since 1768. In 2006, the fire brigades merged. Now they are the Großröhrsdorf city fire brigade.
Nature surrounds Kleinröhrsdorf. The Große Röder flows through the village. West of the village lies the Massenei forest. South of Kleinröhrsdorf is the Wallroda reservoir. It offers recreational activities.
In 2002, the Gut Heinrichshof riding facility opened. It has riding arenas and an outdoor area.
A book was published in 2014. It details the village’s history. It covers the founding around 1539. It also covers life after the Reformation. The book is available through the Kleinröhrsdorf support association.
