The association functions with an annual budget of 160,000 euros. It receives support from the City of Marseille. Funding also comes from the Région Sud, and the Département des Bouches du Rhône. Drac PACA also supports Art-cade*.
Jean-Baptiste Audat began cultural projects in French-speaking Africa in 1984. He worked with an NGO, ENDA tiers-monde. This work inspired him to found Art-cade* in Marseille. He wanted to mobilize artists for North-South collaborations.
Anne-Marie Pécheur was appointed to the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille. Together, they acquired the dilapidated public baths in 1993. Over 15 years, they restored the building. They ran summer projects and reintegration programs.
