From its humble beginnings in 1897 Newland House School has a rich history. It started as a small school. It was originally located at Newland House in Oak Lane Twickenham. The school’s name is a tribute to Reverend Glossop’s mother. Her maiden name was Newland.

Newland House School wasn’t always in its current location. For a time it was known as Amyand House School. This was before it adopted the name of the building it occupied. The school then moved to a larger site on Strawberry Hill Road. Finally it settled into its present site in Waldegrave Park between 1944 and 1945. During this period it briefly went by another name Twickenham Grammar School.

The school’s current building has an interesting past too. Before becoming Newland House School it was known as Heriotdene. This was the home of Henry Cheers a renowned architect. He designed many schools town halls and libraries across England. The building itself sits on 32 Waldegrave Park.

Today Newland House School thrives. It’s an independent co-educational preparatory school. It caters to children aged three to thirteen. The school boasts impressive facilities. These include two science labs a design technology workshop a music hall and an ICT suite. Newland House School also uses off-site facilities. These are at Bushy Park Sports Club and Teddington Rugby Club in Bushy Park.

The school has a broad curriculum. It encompasses a range of academic subjects. It draws on the National Curriculum but extends it. The school also provides a range of extra-curricular activities. Newland House School prepares its pupils for entry into independent senior schools. The school has a motto Innovate Nurture Inspire Fly. It also uses the Latin motto Per Ardua ad Gloriam meaning Through work we achieve glory. It’s a testament to the school’s dedication to its students’ success.

Many notable former pupils have gone on to achieve great things. These include Chemmy Alcott an alpine ski racer. Simi Garewal an Indian actress is also a notable alumna. Oliver Golding a tennis player and former child actor also attended. John Greed the founder of a major UK jewellery retailer is another notable alum. Patsy Kensit a well-known actress also calls Newland House School her alma mater. Stephen Milligan a Conservative politician and journalist is another notable former student. Edward Sinclair a swimmer and Tanya Gold a journalist and author are also among the many successful alumni of this remarkable school.
