“Non-24 Hours” the sign reads. That’s our clue. The Avondale Heights Police Station offers more than meets the eye.
Welcome to the Avondale Heights Police Station. It stands ready to serve and protect. But there’s more to this place than meets the eye. It is located at 162 Military Road.
Avondale Heights itself has a story. It became one of Melbourne’s newest residential areas in the late 1950s. The area got its name from the old Avondale property. It was subdivided in the 1920s. Military Road was the only made road here by 1960. Small farms and market gardens once flourished along the river.
Before houses dotted the landscape, Canning Street Gardens was a local hotspot. During the interwar years, it was a place to be. Think boat excursions and tea gardens. Tennis courts and a dance hall added to the fun.
The Avondale Heights Police Station operates with specific hours. The reception counter is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. But don’t worry. This station provides 24-hour police patrols and response services.

Avondale Heights has changed over the years. It once had a high proportion of overseas-born residents. Many came from Italy and the former Yugoslavia. New estates sprung up into the 1990s. In 1996, it recorded the highest rate of owner occupation in Melbourne.
The Avondale Heights Police Station stands as a pillar of the community. It is a place where service and history meet.
