Picture a place where aviation history takes flight. This place is Repülős. It is more than just a name. Repülős is a testament to Hungary’s rich aviation past.

Repülős stands ready to welcome you. It is near Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The location is intentional. What better place to celebrate flight than near a bustling airport?

Let’s dive into what makes Repülős special. It is an outdoor museum called Aeropark Budapest. Here, you can find vintage planes. Most of these planes proudly wear the logo of Malév. Malév was Hungary’s national airline. Though now obsolete its memory lives on.

Step back in time as you wander through Repülős. The museum showcases aviation history from Hungary’s communist era. During this time air travel was not readily available. These planes are relics of that era. They offer a glimpse into a different world.

Marvel at the museum’s oldest piece. It is a well-preserved Lisunov-type passenger plane from the 1950s. Then there is Malév’s biggest Russian-made Tupolev. These aircraft represent five generations of corporate airline design. You can even see a small plane that was purchased from a McDonald’s parking lot. It is now part of the Malév fleet.

Imagine climbing aboard Malév’s historic mobile airstair. This will allow you to enter one of the company’s cargo planes. This particular plane once transported poultry to North Africa. Inside the IL-18 turboprop you will find Aeropark’s indoor exhibition. This exhibition features stewardess uniforms and other Malév relics. You can view on-board catering utensils travel bags and model planes. See both Soviet and Western designs. Do not miss the cockpit. Observe the mechanical flight instruments including a vintage yoke and the Morse telegraph.

Another highlight is the former Malév TU-134. Crawl through the plane’s cockpit. Discover the glazed nose cone. The aircraft was used from 1969 through 1987. This foremost compartment housed the on-board navigator.

Repülős strives to maintain its heritage fleet. The planes shine with attractive illumination after dark. Aviation aficionados volunteer here. They help keep the museum fleet spruce.

Try out the Cessna 172 flight simulator. Browse the gift shop for Malév catering utensils and model aircraft. See antiquated vehicles that once crossed the tarmac. These include ground support equipment and an Ikarus articulated bus.

Before you leave take a moment to appreciate the monumental display outside. An 11-meter-high Vertical Stabilizer of a Boeing 767 welcomes visitors. It sits proudly atop an oversized concrete base.

Repülős offers English-language guided tours. Learn about each aircraft’s history and parameters.

Your journey to Repülős is easy. Take metro line 3 to Kőbánya-Kispest. Then transfer to bus line 200E to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. Get off at the Repülőmúzeum stop. Aeropark is a short walk away.

Repülős is more than a museum. It is a journey through time. It is a celebration of flight. It is a tribute to Hungary’s aviation legacy. Come explore the wonders of Repülős. Let your imagination take flight.
