Established in 2003 Auckland International College AIC was a beacon of academic excellence. It was New Zealand’s only school solely dedicated to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme IBDP. AIC catered to both international and domestic students. It enjoyed incredible success. Students consistently gained admission to top universities worldwide.
AIC’s story is one of remarkable achievement. Its 100% IBDP pass rate in 2021 is a testament to its high standards. AIC graduates secured places at nine of the world’s top ten universities as ranked by the Times Educational Supplement TES. This is a truly remarkable accomplishment. Think of the dedication and hard work involved.
However the COVID-19 pandemic cast a long shadow. Travel restrictions severely impacted student enrollment. The school’s roll plummeted to 136 students. This made it impossible to continue. The AIC Council made the difficult decision to close the school in 2023.
Despite the closure AIC’s legacy lives on. Its commitment to academic excellence inspired countless students. Many graduates now attend prestigious universities. Their success stories are a tribute to AIC’s dedication. The college supported its students through the transition to university. It provided assistance with applications and transcripts. This shows AIC’s unwavering commitment to its students even after closure.
The closure of Auckland International College marked a loss for New Zealand. It represented a significant loss from an educational economic and cultural perspective. Yet AIC’s legacy of academic achievement and global connections will endure. The memories of its dedicated teachers and successful students will remain. AIC’s story is a reminder of the power of education and the resilience of the human spirit. It also reminds us that even the most successful ventures can face unforeseen challenges.
