Relive childhood memories as we approach the Museum of Brands. This museum is a time capsule. It showcases the evolution of consumer culture. It spans from Victorian times to today.

The Museum of Brands began as the Robert Opie Collection. Robert Opie started collecting items over fifty years ago. He wanted to show how products and advertising changed.

In 1975, Robert had enough items for an exhibition. It was called “The Pack Age”. It opened at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In 1984, he opened his first museum. It was dedicated to packaging and advertising. It was located in Gloucester.

The collection needed a new home in the early 2000s. The Museum became a charity in 2002. This was made possible through the help of pi Global and sponsors such as Cadbury. Twinings and Vodafone also contributed. Diageo Kellogg’s and McVitie’s were also founding sponsors.

The Museum of Brands opened in Notting Hill in 2005. It quickly outgrew its building. In 2015 it moved to a larger site on Lancaster Road. This is near the famous Portobello Road Market.

Inside the Museum of Brands, you will find over 12000 original items. These include everyday products packaging posters toys and games. The museum’s “Time Tunnel” takes you through 150 years of British consumer history. See how brands have evolved. Observe how society has changed with them.

Exhibitions at the Museum of Brands also explore how brands deal with social issues. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions talks and workshops throughout the year.

The Museum of Brands isn’t just about the past. It also looks at the present. A display showcases the most purchased products in British supermarkets.

The Museum of Brands also examines what makes a brand successful. Is it the name? Is it the color? Or is it the shape?

Before we move on, consider this: the Museum of Brands has a cafe and garden. It is also a venue for events. This unique museum offers a nostalgic journey. It reveals how consumerism has shaped our lives.
