In 2006, a devastating fire swept through Pasar Jaya Blok M, leaving the community heartbroken. From the ashes of this disaster, a vision emerged. A vision of a grand mosque, a place of solace and spiritual renewal. The developers of Blok M Square embraced this vision, incorporating the mosque into their plans for a new complex. The journey was not easy. Negotiations with building management were complex. The mosque’s advocates, determined to create a fitting space for worship, persisted. They appealed directly to then-Governor Fauzi Bowo, whose intervention paved the way for Masjid Nurul Rahman’s realization. In 2009, the mosque opened its doors, a symbol of hope reborn. Initially, Masjid Nurul Rahman was a simple structure, gradually evolving over the years. Ornate details were added, and facilities expanded to accommodate the growing community. Word of the mosque’s serene atmosphere and engaging sermons spread. Crowds swelled, particularly for the popular Saturday lectures by Ustaz Khalid Basalamah. To accommodate the increasing numbers, the mosque underwent a significant expansion in 2016. Part of the parking area was repurposed, increasing the capacity to an impressive 14,000 worshippers. Today, Masjid Nurul Rahman stands as a testament to the community’s unwavering faith. It’s a place where modern life and spiritual devotion intertwine.
