Established in 1956 Gladsaxe Gymnasium stands proudly. It’s a testament to a growing community. Gladsaxe’s population boomed. From under 24000 in 1940 it soared past 60000 by 1960. The need for a local gymnasium became undeniable. Young people no longer had to travel all the way to Lyngby for their education. A plot near the roundabout connecting Su00f8borg Buddinge Bagsvu00e6rd and Mu00f8rkhu00f8j was chosen. It was initially intended for cultural buildings. But fate intervened. The architects Eva and Niels Koppel designed this impressive structure. Gladsaxe Gymnasium or GG as the locals affectionately call it now houses around 1200 students. Approximately 100 teachers guide these young minds.
The gymnasium has a unique history. It once collaborated with the now-closed Gladsaxe Ny Teater. They even incorporated the theater’s facilities. This adds a dramatic flair to the school’s legacy. The school has famous alumni. Among them are politicians journalists comedians and business leaders. Sophie Hu00e6storp Andersen a prominent Social Democrat is one example. Mimi Jacobsen a former minister and party chair is another. Anja Westphal Samuel Rachlin and Ditte Haue successful journalists are also proud alumni. The list extends to prominent figures like Niels Klagenberg Morten Wichmann Erik Damgaard and Jonatan Spang. Even Jakob Svendsen a well-known stand-up comedian taught mathematics and computer science here. Musician Bo Evers also shared his expertise in biology.
