Masjid Jami Nurul Jihad’s story begins not with bricks and mortar, but with a vision. In 1948, Narmada’s residents sought a deeper understanding of Islam. They formed “Djama’ah Islam Narmada,” or DIN, to guide their spiritual journey. Two young teachers, Muh. Djuaini bin H. Mukhtar and Ma’ad bin H. Adnan, arrived from Pancor. They established Madrasah Nurul Huda Nahdlatul Wathan in 1951. A simple wooden musholla, built alongside the school, would eventually become the Masjid Jami Nurul Jihad we see today.
The original musholla expanded, becoming a permanent brick structure. It gained a name: Masjid Nurul Jihad. The community flourished around it. As the community grew, so did the need for a larger space. Around 1998, the mosque underwent a significant reconstruction. The old structure gave way to a two-story building, its strategic location on the main road solidifying its role as the central mosque for the Narmada district.
Masjid Jami Nurul Jihad is more than just a place of worship. It reflects the rich tapestry of the community, a beacon of faith in a pluralistic society.
