Hidden behind its walls, the Cimetière de Villetaneuse whispers stories of Villetaneuse’s past. This isn’t just a cemetery. It’s a historical record spanning 0.6 hectares. The Cimetière de Villetaneuse is one of two cemeteries in Villetaneuse, Seine-Saint-Denis. The other is the Cimetière intercommunal des Joncherolles. The Cimetière de Villetaneuse no longer accepts new burials. Its gates are closed to new arrivals, yet open for us to explore its stories. 519 tombs stand within its walls, each a silent testament to a life lived. Among them lies a military square, a place of honor for the fallen. Two rows of five tombs stand solemnly, watched over by an obelisk monument. The remains of a French soldier, once laid to rest in a field, now find their final peace within the Cimetière de Villetaneuse. This transfer symbolizes the cemetery’s role as a guardian of memory, ensuring that even those lost are brought home.
