“This isn’t the White House I expected,” a voice whispered behind you. You might be standing in the heart of Paris, but the Maison-Blanche district takes its name from a humble source. Before towering apartments and grand boulevards, this area was a simple village outside Paris. What is now a bustling intersection with the metro rumbling below was once the site of a modest inn. This inn, known as “The White House,” gave the entire district its intriguing name. Over time, the little village grew, eventually becoming part of Paris in 1860. The original Maison-Blanche inn is long gone. Yet, its memory lives on in the name of this vibrant Parisian neighbourhood. Look around and imagine the echoes of its past.
