“Zoom!” A young boy’s voice echoed through the air. He gripped an imaginary steering wheel, mimicking the high-pitched whine of a kart engine. Paris Kart Indoor. That’s where their imaginations took flight. Once, the largest indoor karting track in France, Paris Kart Indoor in Wissous roared with the real sounds of engines. It offered an adrenaline rush like no other. The track, over 700m long, was a marvel of design by PGK, a company known for its electric blue tracks and FFSA approval. The air vibrated with the energy of speed demons, both young and old. From children just tall enough to reach the pedals (with a little help from a cushion, of course) to seasoned racers, everyone found their thrill at Paris Kart Indoor. A 10-minute session could set you back 18€ for a child or 25€ for an adult, but the experience was priceless. Companies flocked here for team-building events, filling the seminar rooms and restaurants between races. Even the rumble of Formula 1 simulators could be heard from the club-house. Sadly, this temple of speed has closed its doors in Wissous. It’s currently searching for a new location, its iconic electric blue track a ghost of races past. But the memories, the echoes of “Zoom!” and the thrill of the race, still live on.
