What if these walls of Herrenhaus Barneck could talk? They would tell tales of knights, councilors, and a changing Leipzig. This building is more than just a house. It is a silent witness to centuries of local history.

Herrenhaus Barneck began its story in 1285. It was first mentioned as Parnik. Over time, it changed hands. In 1537, the Leipzig City Council acquired Barneck. They bought it along with Leutzsch and Schu00f6nau.

Around 1650, Barneck consisted of four farms. Johann Graf acquired three of them by 1692. In 1766, Councilor Johann Wilhelm Richter bought all four. He combined them into an estate. It spanned 116 hectares. This included forest and meadows. In 1786, he built a manor house for the estate. That is the core of what stands before you today.

Richter’s son-in-law, Chamber Councilor Heinrich Gottfried Honig, took over. But in 1817, he faced bankruptcy. The estate then changed hands a few more times.

In 1900, a bank for real estate acquired it. Then in 1907, the tenant Emil Roesch purchased the Herrenhaus Barneck. He also bought the farm buildings and garden. Roesch transformed the manor house into its present form. Look above the entrance. You will see the monogram ER. Those are his initials.

Over the 20th century, the farm buildings vanished. They were replaced with residential houses. In 2008, the Herrenhaus Barneck was renovated. It now serves as a residential building.

Until 1815, Barneck belonged to the Amt Schkeuditz. Later, it fell under Amt Leipzig. By 1856, it was under the Leipzig II court office. In 1875, it became part of the Amtshauptmannschaft Leipzig. In 1908, Barneck merged with Bu00f6hlitz-Ehrenberg. They had already grown together. In 1999, both became part of Leipzig.

A railway station opened near Barneck in 1873. It was on the Leipzig to Grou00dfkorbetha line. Initially, it was named Barneck. But it was renamed Leutzsch in 1885.

Today, the Herrenhaus Barneck stands as a testament to time. It links past eras and present day Leipzig. Although the surrounding estate has transformed, the Herrenhaus Barneck remains. It reminds us of the area’s rich and varied history. Take a moment. Think about all those who have passed through its doors. Their stories are woven into the very fabric of this remarkable building.
