The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant claimed responsibility. They said it was retaliation for French airstrikes. The attacks were planned in Syria. They were organized by a terrorist cell based in Belgium.

At 21:32 attackers arrived outside Café Bonne Bière. This location is close to La Casa Nostra. They opened fire. Five people were killed. At 21:36 assailants arrived at La Belle Équipe. They fired for several minutes. Twenty-one people were killed. At 21:40 Brahim Abdeslam detonated his explosive vest. This occurred at the Comptoir Voltaire café. He killed himself and injured fifteen.
Beginning at around 21:50 a mass shooting and hostage-taking occurred. This took place at the Bataclan theatre. The American rock band Eagles of Death Metal was playing. Three gunmen opened fire. Witnesses heard shouts of “Allahu Akbar.” Ninety people were killed.
