Tucked between the Kâğıthane and Alibeyköy streams, Alibeyköy Mahallesi whispers tales of a vibrant past. Alibeyköy Mahallesi, a neighborhood nestled within Istanbul’s Eyüpsultan district, derives its name from Ali Bey, son of Gazi Evrenos Bey. Gazi Evrenos Bey served under Orhan Bey, and his loyalty was rewarded with land in Istanbul. This land, gifted to Ali Bey, would become the heart of Alibeyköy Mahallesi. A giant corn statue at the entrance of Alibeyköy Mahallesi pays homage to its history as a land of cornfields. Though the fields are gone, the corn remains a symbol of the neighborhood’s agricultural roots. The population of Alibeyköy Mahallesi boomed between the 1950s and 1960s. Many of the new residents were Turkish immigrants from what was then Yugoslavia, now North Macedonia and Kosovo. These immigrants brought their skills and traditions, establishing themselves in jewelry making and confectionery. They shaped the neighborhood’s character, their influence still felt today as you wander through Alibeyköy Mahallesi. In the late Ottoman period, vast pastures in Alibeyköy Mahallesi fed sheep that supplied the palace and army. Later, during the Republican era, these lands were distributed to the public, marking a shift in the neighborhood’s social structure. Today, Alibeyköy Mahallesi thrives as a bustling hub connected by an intricate network of buses, minibuses, and the modern M7 metro line. This metro line, a significant investment completed in 2019, connects Alibeyköy Mahallesi to key city centers like Çağlayan, Mecidiyeköy, and Beşiktaş, facilitating easy access to the heart of Istanbul. Alibeyköy Mahallesi, a testament to Istanbul’s rich history, offers a captivating blend of old and new.
