How about a church that embodies community spirit? This is City Kirken. It is more than just a building. It is a living fellowship of Christians in Copenhagen.

City Kirken’s story began in 1987. Thirteen people moved to Taastrup. They wanted to start a relevant fellowship. They envisioned a close-knit community. It would be like an extended family.

For its first few years, City Kirken relied on financial support. Other Baptist churches in Copenhagen helped. Since 1990, it has been self-financing. Free churches in Denmark do not receive state funding like the Danish State Church.

Today, City Kirken has fellowships in Taastrup. Most members live in Taastrup, Albertslund, or Ishøj. These are western suburbs of Copenhagen. About 100 people are affiliated with City Kirken.

What makes City Kirken different? They believe God is alive. Services emphasize contemporary worship. Music is lively. Preaching is biblical and practical.

Many people get involved in services. It is not just the pastor preaching. City Kirken values everyone’s contribution. They want to help people thrive socially and spiritually.

Being a Christian is more than Sundays. City Kirken strives to practice what they preach. They value fellowship. They enjoy meeting outside of church too.

Are you visiting Copenhagen? City Kirken welcomes you. Someone can translate the service into English. Are you staying longer? They can help you find an English-speaking community. City Kirken has connections to African Baptist churches in Copenhagen.

City Kirken translates to City Church in English. Remember Paul’s words. Focus on the unseen. What is seen is temporary. What is unseen is eternal. Life on earth is fleeting. Everything ends. Even the challenges we face.

We are like clay jars. We can easily break. Physically, emotionally, spiritually, we are vulnerable. This world does not always follow God’s will. Paul knew this. He described how challenges affect him. But Christ makes a difference.

Paul wrote that they are hard-pressed but not crushed. They are perplexed but not in despair. Persecuted but not abandoned. Struck down but not destroyed. Weakness is clear. Strength is too. God’s power shows best in weakness. Allow God to use your cracks. Let him use your frailties.

Clay jars are unique. Each one is made with care. God creates us with the same care. He works differently in each of us. We each have something beautiful. Something special. The Bible teaches us who we are in Christ. It reveals God’s plan for us.

Paul used the image of clay jars. We have different shapes and sizes. We have different colors. We are used in different ways. Remember we are created with purpose. Our value does not depend on the world’s opinion. Focus on the eternal. Focus on the future. Even in difficulty, remember you are made for something greater. You are made for eternity.

Consider how you see weakness. How can you let God use it? What is your next step? Pray. Ask God to put his name above everything. Even your weaknesses. Thank him for working through them. Focus on Christ. He will strengthen you in your battles. Remember the battle belongs to him.

May God bless you richly. Join City Kirken for worship. Services are held Sundays at 11:00 AM. They take place at the Kulturcentret in Taastrup. It is located at Poppel Allé 12. They look forward to seeing you. Consider how everything works together. This is City Kirken.
