A weighty history rests upon these stones. The Diocese of Pasig stands before you a testament to faith resilience and growth.

Established on June 28 2003 by Pope John Paul II this diocese holds a unique place in the Philippines. Before its establishment Pasig was part of the Archdiocese of Manila. Its parishes were spread across Pasig Taguig and Pateros. The oldest among them the Immaculate Conception Parish in Pasig dates back to 1573. It was originally dedicated to the Visitation of Our Lady. Its dedication later changed to the Immaculate Conception.

The Diocese of Pasig wasn’t born overnight. It grew from humble beginnings. Early parishes like San Roque in Pateros and Saint Anne in Taguig were established during the Spanish colonial period. New parishes sprang up later. Santo Tomas de Villanueva Parish was granted its own status in 1953. Others like Rosario and Bicutan followed. The northeastern side of Pasig was later transferred to the Diocese of Antipolo in 1983.

Bishop Francisco Capiral San Diego became the first Bishop of Pasig. His tenure saw the construction of the Bishop’s residence and diocesan offices. He also worked on improving the Catholic cemetery. He established a retirement plan for the clergy. His term also marked the papal canonical coronation of the image of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in 2008.

Bishop Mylo Hubert Claudio Vergara succeeded Bishop San Diego. He bolstered lay evangelization programs. He invited religious orders to manage several parishes. He oversaw the building of the Tahanan ng Mabuting Pastol which houses the bishop’s residence and diocesan offices.

The Diocese of Pasig is more than just a religious institution. It’s a living community. It has witnessed centuries of history and continues to serve its people. It’s a place where faith is celebrated. Where communities are built and strengthened. Where the echoes of prayers blend with the pulse of a vibrant city. The Diocese of Pasig a story of perseverance faith and unwavering devotion. It’s a story that continues to unfold.
