He was a key figure in shaping Újpest’s destiny. He envisioned a thriving community, a refuge from the devastation of the 1838 flood. He offered incentives, attracting settlers to the Danube’s edge. In 1840, his vision materialized as Újpest. Károlyi championed Újpest’s industrial growth. He invited skilled craftsmen and manufacturers, fostering a vibrant economy. He meticulously planned the town’s architecture, emphasizing a modern, urban design. His stipulations for building materials and street layouts reflect his forward-thinking approach.
