New Testament Baptist Church

Founded in 1971 the New Testament Baptist Church boasts a rich history. It began with a small group led by Brother James N Cooper. Brother Jim as he was known was a dedicated man of God. He had previously established churches in the Bahamas. The first service of the New Testament Baptist Church was attended by about twenty people. They initially met at Wee Wisdom School. As the congregation grew they sought a larger space. God answered their prayers. The church purchased six lots in Highland Park on Dolphin Drive. In April 1972 a groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of a new building program. This culminated in the completion of their current facilities. Shortly after moving to their new location Brother Cooper was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. He left for the US for treatment and sadly never returned. He passed away in September 1973. Reverend Sam Eisenbach served as an interim pastor. Later Reverend Julius Bradshaw became pastor serving until 1974. Reverend Jack Harvey followed as interim pastor then as pastor. He served until 1978 when Reverend Harold Bowe Jr took over. Brother Bowe resigned due to ill health in 1979. Reverend Don Isley served as a supply pastor. William Medlin became pastor in 1980 serving until 1986. In November 1986 Dr David L Adams became the first Bahamian born pastor. He remains the current pastor. Despite challenges the New Testament Baptist Church has thrived. It is completely independent of all other churches. The church supports over forty missionaries worldwide. Seven ministries have branched out from the New Testament Baptist Church. These include Maranatha Baptist Church Teleos Christian Schools and others. The church continues to impact lives through services schools a camp and outreach ministries. The New Testament Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith perseverance and God’s unwavering blessings.
