Established in 1907 Centro Escolar University stands proudly before you. It’s a testament to Philippine history. More than just a university it’s a living legacy. Centro Escolar University started as Centro Escolar de Señoritas. It was the first non-sectarian women’s educational institution in the Philippines.

Librada Avelino and Carmen de Luna founded this pioneering institution. Their vision was bold. They aimed to educate Filipino women. They wanted to empower them for leadership in society. Their goal was to instill science and virtue in the young women of the nation. The curriculum originally included kindergarten elementary and secondary instruction. It also offered courses in music and home arts.

Centro Escolar University wasn’t just about academics. It was about shaping character. It instilled ideals of “ideal womanhood intelligent citizenry and democratic leadership”. This was quite progressive for its time. The university expanded quickly adding colleges of Pharmacy Liberal Arts Education Business Dentistry and Optometry. In 1930 it became a university officially. Financial stability led to its incorporation in 1932. The name Centro Escolar University has remained unchanged ever since.

The university faced challenges. World War II disrupted operations. Yet Centro Escolar University persevered. Dedicated faculty members continued to teach even under difficult circumstances. The university’s commitment to quality education remained unwavering.

Today Centro Escolar University boasts six campuses. Its main campus is on Mendiola Street. It also has campuses in Malolos Las Piñas Cebu City and two in Makati. The Malolos campus has a unique feature. It has a teaching hotel called the Ada. This is for its hospitality and tourism program. The university offers over fifty academic programs. It’s actively involved in research across various disciplines.
