Have you ever heard of a mosque visited by both a President and a Prime Minister in the same year? You are standing right in front of one. The Katugastota Grand Mosque, also known as the Katukele Jumma Mosque, is more than just a place of worship. It holds a significant place in the heart of the Katukele neighborhood in Kandy. In recent times, the Katugastota Grand Mosque received some very important guests. President Ranil Wickremesinghe paid a visit in April 2024. A few months later, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya also came to pay her respects. These visits underline the mosque’s importance in Sri Lankan society, highlighting its role as a bridge between different communities.
