On a modest plot of land in Joglo, Kembangan, Jakarta Barat, the Masjid As Salam Joglo stands as a testament to community spirit. It began in August 1977, a simple structure built on approximately 320 square meters within the Komplek DKI housing complex. Masjid As Salam Joglo quickly became more than just a place of worship. The community envisioned a hub for social and religious activities. They wanted to strengthen the bonds among the residents of Komplek DKI and the surrounding areas. Their mission was clear: to enhance worship, improve Islamic education, and promote general education for the younger generation. In January 1978, they took a significant step. They established the Yayasan Masjid dan Perguruan As-Salam. This foundation, later known as Yayasan As-Salam Joglo, was officially recognized on March 20, 1978, under Notary Deed No. 103 by Daeng Lalo SH. Masjid As Salam Joglo is more than just bricks and mortar. It represents the dreams and aspirations of a community. It stands as a beacon of faith, education, and unity, serving the people of Joglo and beyond. Governor Anies Baswedan himself recognized its importance, officiating its inauguration and highlighting its potential as a center for positive community development. He even shared a personal anecdote about praying at the mosque before his time as governor. The mosque continues to thrive, supported by community initiatives and donations. From social aid programs to free healthcare services, the Badan Kemakmuran Masjid (BKM) of Yayasan Assalam Joglo strives to meet the needs of the community. Masjid As Salam Joglo is a place where faith and community intersect. It is a living testament to the power of collective action and the enduring spirit of the people of Joglo.
