Launched in 2020, Povos is more than just an art gallery. It is a launchpad for emerging Chicago artists. Lucca Colombelli founded Povos. She is an artist and art educator. Povos began as an online gallery. Successful pop-up projects led to a physical space on Milwaukee Avenue in late 2021. Later, Povos moved to a larger gallery in Chicago’s West Town Gallery district.
In 2024, Povos partnered with artist and gallerist Winston Guo. Guo founded W. Gallery. This partnership led to Povos Downtown. It is an additional exhibition space in Chicago’s South Loop. The expansion allows Povos to host 10 exhibitions per year. Povos has produced 36 exhibitions. These exhibitions featured more than 160 unique artists.
Povos made its international fair debut at EXPO/Frieze Chicago 2024. The gallery showcased works by William Schaeuble and Ashkon Haidari. Povos amplifies voices of emerging artists. It focuses on unique, surreal, and politically engaged narratives. The gallery aims to build its international platform. Povos supports artists committed to exploring deep truths.
Povos Downtown is in the Fulton Market District. The exhibition spaces stagger openings monthly through 2024. It functions as an extension of Povos’ comprehensive programming. Povos launched a new advisory board. This happened in tandem with its physical expansion.
Notably, Povos has featured artists like Leopoldo Goût. Goût launched his comeback into the gallery world with Povos. A mother-daughter show titled “Breaking Bread” explored the artistic connection between artists. Thérèse Mulgrew and Wendy S. Rolfe were featured. Diego De La Rosa’s surreal paintings were also exhibited.
In February 2025, Povos participated in Feria Material Art Fair in Mexico City. Isabella Mellado’s work was displayed. Povos’ founders Lucca Colombelli and Winston Guo are rising stars. Their vision drives Povos’ success. So step inside and experience the future of Chicago art at Povos.
