Crockett & Jones began in a small Northampton building. Only twenty employees. But the brothers-in-law had a secret weapon. The Thomas White Trust. A grant helped them launch their dream. Northampton was perfect. Centuries of shoemaking expertise. Abundant oak for tanning. The River Nene provided water. Its location made it easy to get hides from nearby butchers. This perfect storm created the foundation of Crockett & Jones.

The company blossomed. They integrated new machinery. The Goodyear Welting Machine revolutionized shoemaking. Speed and quality improved. By the 1890s two generations of the Crockett and Jones families were involved. The company expanded into a larger factory. They still use that very factory in Perry Street today. Crockett & Jones grew. Exports soared to Australia Argentina South Africa the USA and the Far East.

Royal Patronage arrived in 1924. The Duke of York. Later King George VI visited. He marveled at the shoemaking process. The national press buzzed. Crowds thronged the streets. Crockett & Jones was a national treasure. This was only the beginning of a long line of achievements. The Second World War saw Crockett & Jones produce over a million pairs of boots for the armed forces. A testament to their skill and dedication.

Today Crockett & Jones is still family-run. The company maintains its high standards. It employs around 300 people in the Northampton factory. Another hundred work in retail offices and management.
