In 1936, a seed was planted in Romford. That seed was Pettits Senior Council school, the precursor to what we now know as Marshalls Park Academy. Marshalls Park Academy has seen a lot of changes since its humble beginnings. Initially enlarged in 1945-6, it later transitioned to Pettits Secondary School. A major shift occurred in 1973 when it merged with Romford County Technical School. This created Marshalls Park Comprehensive. The school operated across two sites: the Upper School at Havering Drive and the Lower School at Pettits Lane. Imagine the bustling activity as students and teachers navigated between the two locations. In July 1999, the Havering Drive site closed. Everything consolidated at Pettits Lane. This prompted a significant £5.5 million modernization project. The 18-month project brought a new sports hall, refurbished classrooms, and updated facilities like a music room, computer rooms, a library, and science labs. The revitalized Marshalls Park Academy officially opened its doors in 2000. The Rt Hon. David Blunkett, MP, Secretary of State for Education, himself, inaugurated the new site. Marshalls Park continued to evolve. In 2006, it gained Specialist Status for the Performing Arts. This culminated in the addition of a new Dance Studio extending into the central Quad in 2010. Another milestone arrived in April 2017. Marshalls Park converted to an academy, joining the South West Essex Community Education Trust (SWECET). Most recently, in 2022, the new C Block opened, further enhancing the learning environment. This state-of-the-art building houses classrooms, science labs, a technology suite, and a professional-grade dance studio. Every room is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including dual projectors to ensure optimal visibility for all students. Marshalls Park Academy stands as a testament to the power of growth and adaptation in education.
