The \u0130çerenköy Merkez Camii first appeared in 1665. Imagine \u0130çerenköy then. It would have been a very different place from the bustling district we see today.
Centuries passed and the original structure needed replacement. So in 1924 the community rebuilt the \u0130çerenköy Merkez Camii. This act of renewal speaks volumes about the enduring spirit of the local people.
Later Hacı Zülfiye Gevrek contributed to the \u0130çerenköy Merkez Camii. She commissioned an extension. Her generosity helped expand the mosque. It allowed for more people to worship.
Note the interior. It features a wooden floor. Observe the wood of the minber. See also the kürsü. The mihrab is marble though. The single minaret graces the Istanbul skyline. It is adorned with a sole şerefe.
Many locals also call it Mehmet Çavuş Camii. This alternate name reveals a personal connection. Perhaps Mehmet Çavuş was an important figure. He must have been someone special.
