From a swamp to a sanctuary, that’s the incredible journey of Parc des Sœurs. Here in Sevran, this green expanse invites you to stroll along its paths. The park is named after the Sisters of Charity of Saint-Vincent de Paul, a testament to their century-long presence on this land. Parc des Sœurs wasn’t always a public space. Its story begins much earlier, tied to a historical property known as the fief de Compiègne. Imagine this area in the 15th century, owned by the lords of Sevran. The Morée River flowed through the fief, feeding a vibrant fishpond. This river still graces the park today, a living link to its past. Over the centuries, the fief passed through the hands of prominent figures, each leaving their mark. Nobles close to the royalty owned this land, including Antoine Joseph Patu de Hautchamp, advisor to the King, and Nicolas Caignard de la Tour, a lawyer whose son, Charles, a celebrated physicist, spent his youth here. Parc des Sœurs, in its current form, emerged in 1980. The town of Sevran acquired the property and transformed the old manor into a health center. It now houses the city’s cultural services. The surrounding land, once part of the historic fief, was preserved as a public park. It was named Parc des Sœurs to honor the Sisters of Charity. The people of Sevran hold fond memories of their time here. So, as you wander through Parc des Sœurs, remember the layers of history beneath your feet. From a medieval fief to a cherished park, its story is etched into the very landscape. Take a moment to appreciate the tranquility and imagine the lives that intertwined with this special place.
