Once upon a time this place buzzed with innovation. Here stood the Verwaltungsgebäude Dux-Automobil-Werke AG. It was more than just an administrative building. It represented a dream of German automotive excellence.

Let’s delve into the story of Dux. The name “Dux” itself is Latin for leader. This hints at the ambition behind this Leipzig company.

The story starts with the Polyphon Musikwerke. Gustav Brachhausen and Ernst Paul Rießner founded it in 1889. They made mechanical music machines. The company quickly gained global recognition. To diversify, they ventured into automobiles. In 1904, they started building the Polymobil Gazelle under license.

By 1909, they were creating their own designs under the name Dux. Gustav Schürmann, a talented engineer, led this effort. He had previously worked for Fahrzeugfabriken Eisenach. The Verwaltungsgebäude Dux-Automobil-Werke AG was erected.

In 1916, the Dux-Automobil-Werke AG was officially established. This Verwaltungsgebäude Dux-Automobil-Werke AG was erected. The company had a starting capital of 1.5 million Mark. The Verwaltungsgebäude Dux-Automobil-Werke AG plans were designed by architect Max Fricke.

Dux produced both cars and commercial vehicles. They manufactured most parts themselves. Only coolers, magnets, and carburetors were sourced externally. Schürmann’s four-cylinder engines powered the vehicles.

During World War I, truck production increased. The German army subsidized Schürmann’s three-ton truck. After the war, Dux joined the Deutsche Automobil-Konzern. This was a merger with Presto, Magirus, and Vomag.

Dux focused on luxury cars within the group. However, the Type R and S models were difficult to sell. Their outdated technology and high prices were to blame. Dux failed to offer smaller models.

In 1926, Presto-Werke acquired Dux-Automobil-Werke AG. The Dux brand disappeared. Later, the Neue Automobil Gesellschaft took over the Leipzig factory. They produced trucks and buses.

In 1930, N.A.G. partnered with Büssing. They formed Büssing-NAG. The former Dux plant remained with Büssing-NAG. During World War II, the factory built parts for armored vehicles.

In 1945, the Soviet administration dismantled the plant. It became a truck repair facility for the Soviet army. The buildings have been vacant since 1991.

As you stand before the Verwaltungsgebäude Dux-Automobil-Werke AG, imagine the past. Picture the sounds of machinery and innovation. While in ruins, it whispers tales of automotive dreams. The dream was once driven by the pursuit of German automotive excellence.
